Established in 1950, The National Book Awards were originally established by a consortium of Publishers to highlight exceptional books written by American Authors. Over the years there have been a number of categories in which books could be submitted for consideration.
From 1996 up to today, Young People's Literature has been the category that encompassed Children's Books
From 1970 - 1983, there was a dedicated Children's Books Category, further broken down into sub-categories during the 1980's.
We are highlighting only the Children/Young Adult winners and runners up. Award Winners are in bold lettering.
